Monthly Summary
See Your Total Profit, Plan Your Earnings, and Check Your Month-End Balance
The Monthly Summary is the most powerful section of the Prepared Finance Book. It brings together everything you tracked during the month — sales, expenses, credit, and goals — into one clear picture. This is where you see the truth about your business: Did you make a profit? How should you use it? Did you hit your goals?
Without a monthly summary, daily records are just numbers. But when totalled, compared, and analyzed at month-end, those numbers tell a story — your business story. This section helps you read that story and make better decisions for next month.
Part 1: Income & Expense Summary
-
Total Monthly Sales — Add up all your daily sales totals for the month
-
Total Monthly Expenses — Add up all your daily expense totals
-
Net Profit — Sales minus Expenses = Your real profit
Part 2: Profit Allocation
Once you know your profit, the book guides you to divide it wisely:
-
Reinvest in Business — How much to put back into stock or equipment
-
Personal Savings — How much to save for the future
-
Take Home / Personal Use — How much to use for personal and family needs
Part 3: Credit Summary
This sub-section pulls from your Loan & Credit Tracker to summarize:
-
Total Money Owed to You — How much debtors still owe you
-
Total Money You Owe — How much you still owe to lenders
-
Net Credit Position — The difference — are you owed more or do you owe more?
Part 4: Goal Tracker
Remember the goals you set at the start of the month? This is where you review them:
-
Earnings Goal — Did you earn what you targeted?
-
Savings Goal — Did you save what you planned?
-
Improvement Goal — Did you make the change you wanted?
Part 5: Month-End Balance Check
The final row of the Monthly Summary asks: How much cash do you have right now? This closing balance should match the sum of your last closing daily balance. If it doesn't, something needs reviewing — and this section helps you catch it.
Why This Matters
-
You see the complete financial picture of your month — not just fragments
-
You learn to allocate profit instead of spending it all at once
-
Your credit position is visible — so you don't over-lend or over-borrow
-
Goal tracking builds discipline and momentum month after month
-
This summary is what SACCOs, lenders, and partners want to see when they evaluate your business
