Start Every Month With Purpose — Carry Forward, Set Goals, and Grow

The Goal Setting & Growth section is where every new month begins in the Prepared Finance Book. Before you record a single sale or expense, this section asks you to pause, review, and plan. It combines two powerful pages: "Prepare for a New Month" (carry-forward review) and "New Month Goals" (target setting).

Most small business owners in Uganda start each month without a plan. They jump straight into selling, spending, and hustling — but without a target, it's hard to know if you're actually growing. This section changes that by giving you a clear starting point and a clear destination.

Part 1: Prepare for a New Month (Carry-Forward)

Before you begin a new month, look back at where you ended. This page helps you carry forward the important numbers and lessons from last month:

  • icon Check Cash Balance from Last Month — How much money did you close with?
  • icon Check Outstanding Debts — Who still owes you? What do you still owe?
  • icon Check Stock Value — What is the total value of goods you're starting with?
  • icon Check Assets Value — Total value of your business equipment and tools
  • icon Check Unfinished Goals — Did you achieve last month's targets? What remains?
  • icon Check Business Strength Rating — A simple self-rating of how your business performed

Part 2: New Month Goals

Once you've reviewed the past, it's time to look forward. This page guides you through 5 simple but powerful questions:

  • icon Check How much do I want to earn this month?
  • icon Check How much do I want to save this month?
  • icon Check What do I want to improve in my business?
  • icon Check What new thing do I want to try this month?
  • icon Check What is my monthly target (amount to earn or save)?

Why This Matters

A business without goals is like a matatu without a destination — it moves, but it doesn't arrive. When you write down what you want to achieve, something powerful happens: you start making decisions that align with those goals.

If your target is to save UGX 200,000 this month, you'll think twice before unnecessary spending. If your goal is to reduce credit by 50%, you'll follow up on debtors more seriously. Goals create focus, and focus creates results.

This section also builds accountability. At the end of the month, you'll return to these goals in the Monthly Summary section to check whether you hit them — creating a cycle of planning, action, and review that drives real growth.

Start every month knowing exactly where you stand and where you're going.
