Know What Your Business Owns — Track Every Tool, Machine, and Asset

The Business Assets Tracker (also called the Business Assets Register) is where you record everything your business owns. From sewing machines and refrigerators to furniture, display shelves, and weighing scales — if it helps your business run, it belongs in this section.

Many small business owners in Uganda don't know the total value of what they own. They buy equipment, tools, and furniture over time but never sit down to list it all. This section changes that by giving you a clear, organized table to register every asset.

What You Record

The Assets Tracker uses a simple table with the following columns:

  • icon Check Item/Asset Name — What is it? (e.g., Sewing machine, Fridge, Phone, Tables)
  • icon Check Date Acquired — When did you buy or receive it?
  • icon Check Condition — Is it in good, fair, or poor condition?
  • icon Check Estimated Value — How much is it worth today?
  • icon Check Total Assets Value — The combined value of everything you own

How to Fill It

At the start of each month, sit down and list everything your business uses. If you added new equipment, add it to the list. If something broke or was sold, update the condition or remove it. At the bottom, add up all estimated values to get your Total Assets Value.

This total is an important number — it tells you the strength of your business beyond just cash and sales. It's what you would list if a SACCO or lender asked, "What does your business own?"

Why This Matters

Knowing your total asset value helps you in many ways:

  • icon Check You understand the real size of your business — not just your daily sales
  • icon Check You can protect your assets by knowing what you have and its condition
  • icon Check Lenders and SACCOs use your asset list to assess your loan eligibility
  • icon Check You can plan for replacements before things break down unexpectedly
  • icon Check Insurance claims become easier when you have a written record of what you own

Know the full value of your business — beyond just daily sales.
